Least Expensive

This edition’s cheapest car, a 1994 Geo Prizm, is a real gem (pun intended). The seller has included some truly hilarious and overly optimistic notes regarding this car’s condition, many of which stand in stark contrast to the pictures which they have provided.

The seller states

  • “The exterior of this car is finished in a beautiful Black Mist Metallic, which gives it a sleek and modern look. The paint is in great condition, and there are no major dents or scratches on the body of the car.”

The photographs show

  • The exterior of this car was at one point finished in Black Mist Metallic, which gives it the appearance of an anonymous ‘90s econo-blob. The paint is in objectively abysmal condition, with failed clearcoat over almost the entire exterior. There is visible rust on the roof, as well as what appears to be a black plastic tarp duct taped over the sunroof.

The seller states

  • “The interior of the car is finished in a comfortable Gray, which looks great with the Black Mist Metallic exterior. The seats are in great condition, and there are no rips or tears in the fabric.”

The photographs show

  • The interior of this car is finished in a gray fabric which represents the cheapest possible material which GM was able to source in the mid-90s. Wear is evident on both the front and rear seats, and the headliner appears to have been almost completely destroyed by a feral ocelot.

The seller states

  • “The car also comes equipped with a rear spoiler, which not only looks great but also helps to improve the car’s aerodynamics and handling.”

The photographs show

  • There is no rear spoiler, and even if there were, it would do absolutely nothing to help improve the tepid performance generated by the anemic 1.6L inline four cylinder engine.

Most Expensive

Confession time, this is the THIRD most expensive car listed for sale on Autotempest. Two of the cars which I featured previously are still for sale, meaning that this ‘22 Ferrari SF90 Stradale is up to bat. Sold new at Ferrari of Denver and locally owned ever since, this Bianco Cervino hypersonic missile has covered less than 1,500 miles over the duration of its highly pampered life. Don’t be a peasant with a base SF90 ($500K), this car comes spec’d with the Assetto Fiorano package. Ferrari claim that this will make the car more hard-core and more capable for race track duty. As 99% of these cars will be purchased by professional athletes, playboys, and social media stars with the primary goal of “flexing” rather than setting lap records at Laguna Seca, I suspect the main attraction of this package is that it gives many of the SF90’s interior and exterior bits a liberal slathering of carbon fiber. If you have always wanted a plug-in hybrid AWD Ferrari which can do zero to sixty in around 2 seconds, this Italian Stallion can be yours for $709,990, plus a $995 dealer documentation fee.

From making such iconic cars such as the C-Type, D-Type, E-Type, and XJ220, to making largely forgettable SUVs and planning a year-long sabbatical to relaunch the brand as fully-electrified, Jaguar have been on one hell of a ride over their ninety years in business. The Jaguar F-Type is arguably the last truly great car that Jaguar made. With a truly ravishing design and an array of potent engines, the F-type certainly encapsulates the “grace” and “pace” attributes established by founder William Lyons. This Italian Racing red over black example features the full-fat 5.0 supercharged V8, less than 30K miles, as well as many desirable factory options. The CARFAX indicates a recent comprehensive service and thorough inspection by the expert mechanics at Euro Plus, who also happen to be sponsors of SHIFT Magazine.

The Pontiac GTO is a truly legendary car. Developed by John Z. DeLorean (yep, THAT DeLorean), the GTO ignited America’s “muscle car” craze, and inspired musical tributes by the likes of the Beach Boys and Paul Revere and the Raiders. This Montero red 389 V8 convertible looks well preserved and lovingly maintained by its previous owners., and would make an excellent vehicle for relaxed weekend cruises, attending car shows, and enjoying Colorado’s beautiful autumn weather.
